Angela Lilley, MBA, MA TESOL, MA ODE

Angela attended Chester University from 1976-1980 and left with a degree and a love of teaching and learning. She spent three years in Germany, working as an English Language Teacher and after a trip to Peru, she realised that she had the ‘travel bug’ and started to look for a career that involved travelling.

She returned to the UK to study for a part-time MA in Teaching English as a Second Overseas Language and began work at International House, Piccadilly, where she taught international students and became a teacher trainer.

After twelve years managing projects for IH, Linguarama and Eurocentres, she was recruited by Oxford University Press. She travelled the world carrying out market research with teachers and students and was involved in commissioning some very successful ELT titles.

In 2000, she became Publishing Director at Cambridge University Press and found time to complete a part-time MBA. Her work there involved managing a team working on Dictionaries, Adult and Secondary ELT materials and travelling to many different countries around the world.

Nowadays, Angela works for the Open University as an Open Media Fellow and is responsible for the development of projects with the BBC and OpenLearn. She is also an Associate Lecturer in online courses in Business Education and is writing for the Master’s and Undergraduate business education programmes.

She completed her third Masters in Online and Distance Education in 2012 and is currently carrying out Doctoral research in Technology Enhanced Learning and specifically MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).
